Hoy día 21 de mayo de 2017 se celebran 90 años de la primera travesía en solitario y sin escala del Atlántico norte en avión cuando el piloto americano Charles Lindbergh, luego de un vuelo de más de 33 horas, aterrizó en el aeropuerto de París Le Bourget. Había despegado de la cancha de aviación de Roosevelt Field (Nueva York) en la mañana del 20 para emprender su temerario proyecto de vuelo, utilizando el monomotor Ryan NYP (por Nueva York-Paris), una conversión del entonces Ryan M-2. A fines de aliviar el peso del avión y poder utilizar al máximo el espacio disponible para agregar el combustible necesario a su proyecto de vuelo elimino la radio, el paracaídas así como su equipaje personal y hace instalar un estanque de 1350 litros de combustible detrás del motor. Esta disposición impidió toda posibilidad de visibilidad hacia delante requiriendo la ayuda de un periscopio. El éxito de su vuelo hace que Charles Lindbergh se convirtió en un héroe y a su vuelta a los EE.UU. inicia una gira de 3 meses a través el país.
El Ryan Spirit Of Saint Louis original se encuentra en el National Air and Space Museum de Washington y existe unas cuantas réplicas de este avión.

90 years of the first atlantics crossing by an aircraft
Today 21st of May, 2017, we a celebrating 90 years of the first single non-stop crossing of the Atlantic in aircraft when the American pilot Charles Lindbergh, after a flight of 33 h, landed at the airport of Paris-Le Bourget. He had taken off from the Roosevelt Field (New York) in the morning of the 20th to start his adventures flight, using the single engine Ryan NYP (For New York- Paris), a conversion of the than Ryan M-2. As to alleviate the weight of the aircraft and be able to use at his maximum the space available to add the necessary fuel for his flight project, he eliminated the radio, the parachute and his personal belongings and had a 1350 l fuel tank installed behind the engine. The original Ryan Spirit of St Louis is preserved at the national Air and Space Museum in Washington and a few replicas of this aircraft do exist.
