El 6 de junio de 2018, la nueva aerolínea belga, Air Belgium, inaugura oficialmente sus vuelos entre el aeropuerto Charleroi Brussels South, ubicado a 30 km al sur de Bruselas, y Hong Kong.

 

En esta ocasión, la compañía también presentó su nuevo lounge pasajeros ejecutivos, ubicado a poca distancia del acceso al avión y que tiene una puerta dedicada para embarque inmediato. Es accesible tres horas antes de cada partida.

 

Luego de haber realizado varios vuelos para otras compañías, entre otros el Caribe y África, así como dos vuelos de entrenamiento para la tripulación, con pasajeros y cada uno de una duración de tres horas, un primer vuelo a Hong Kong salió el 3 de junio, después de un retraso de aproximadamente un mes en el plan inicial.

Dos elementos pueden explicar este retraso. En primer lugar, los derechos de sobrevuelo de Rusia y luego los sistemas de transmisión comercial en China.
Esta es la implementación de GDS (Global Distribution Systems) que impide a los turistas chinos sin este acuerdo el acceso a los vuelos de Air Belgium.
Se habían considerado rutas aéreas alternativas, pero extendiendo el vuelo por más de una hora y, por lo tanto, aumentando los costos. Otro argumento sería la falta de pasajeros a bordo durante los primeros tiempos.
Por otro lado, la demanda del alquiler de A340 por parte de otras compañías es muy importante para el comienzo del verano.

La ceremonia de inauguración tuvo lugar en el aeropuerto de Bruselas Charleroi, con la presencia de ministros, autoridades, representantes del mundo político y económico, los directorios de Air Belgium y el aeropuerto, así como empresas asociadas.

 

Eric Bauche, presidente del Consejo de Administración de Air Belgium, comentó: «Estamos orgullosos de inaugurar esta primera ruta comercial en la historia de Air Belgium, que es también la primera conexión entre Brussels Charleroi y el Asia. Es el resultado de dos años de arduos trabajos y muchos pasos en esta nueva aventura, tanto para el personal de la empresa como para BSCA (Brussels South Charleroi Airport).
Hong Kong es sólo la primera etapa de nuestro viaje en China y pronto descubriremos nuevos destinos. »

 

Jean-Jacques Cloquet, presidente del Consejo de Administración de BSCA, por su parte declaró: «La llegada de Air Belgium en la loza de nuestro aeropuerto es la expresión de nuestra voluntad de seguir adelante.

Esta es una nueva etapa en la historia del aeropuerto, ya que trae la aventura de larga distancia y la apertura a otros continentes. Las inversiones realizadas para la extensión de la pista (ahora la pista de 2550m aumentará a 3200m en 2021) y las mejoras a nuestras infraestructuras disponibles para pasajeros son parte de este impulso. »

 

Los aviones Airbus A340 de Air Belgium se benefician de tres clases (Economy, Premium Economy y Business) y la compañía ha elegido destacar los productos y servicios belgas.

 

Por lo tanto, es natural que Air Belgium ofrece una cocina variada de platos típicos, acompañados por los productos belgas tales como cervezas (cerveza Duvel), vino (de diferentes productores belgas) de quesos belgas chocolates Leonidas y Guylian, macarrones Galler, galletas Destrooper, cafés belgas de Blenders y Rombouts (todos para aquellos que conocen los productos belgas).

 

 

Los pasajeros se sirven en francés, neerlandés, inglés, mandarín y cantonés. Tienen la opción de elegir entre dos menús en Eco y Premium y tres en Business class.
Los pasajeros también pueden disfrutar de una amplia variedad de películas (por lo menos 25)
Es un pedazo de territorio belga que está a bordo de cada vuelo y un descubrimiento para viajeros extranjeros.
Como mencioné al principio del artículo, una sala para pasajeros de clase ejecutiva y Premium Economy fue especialmente diseñada. Pueden acceder a un área privada tranquila, ofreciendo los servicios que necesitan y acceso directo a sus aviones.

Recientemente, y como lo pueden haber leído en uno de mis artículos anteriores, Cathay Pacific también inauguró una línea entre Bruselas y Hong Kong.
¿Por qué un interés tan repentino en estos nuevos destinos, especialmente desde Bélgica?
Como lo comentó Rupert Hogg, director ejecutivo de Cathay Pacific en su visita a Bruselas: «Europa es un destino importante en nuestra estrategia, pero éramos limitados con los Boeing 747 y Boeing 777 que son más bien destinados a ciudades como París, Ámsterdam o Frankfurt. Desde que recibimos nuestros Airbus A350-900, es una nueva generación de aviones ideales para transportar 280 pasajeros en tres clases a un costo menor”.
Y no es casual que Air Belgium también haya elegido Hong Kong como primer destino, actualmente en aviones A340, que en el futuro serán reemplazados por aviones con costos de operaciones más económicos.

Esta ciudad es el primer hub del sudeste asiático. Hong Kong representa el dinamismo, el contraste, el entusiasmo, la elegancia y la dulzura de la vida asiática, un importante lugar financiero del planeta y un centro de actividades para las empresas activas en Asia.
Empresarios y turistas se encuentran por miles o pasan todos los días en conexiones para otros vuelos.
La mitad de la población mundial puede llegar en menos de 5 horas en avión. Desde un punto de vista económico y turismo, otras áreas clave, tales como Shenzhen (incluyendo Hainan Airlines también abrió una línea de Bruselas este año) Guangzhou y Macao son fácilmente accesibles por tierra o por mar.
En avión, tenemos acceso a todos los destinos en Asia, el Pacífico y Oceanía.

Hablemos de esta nueva compañía belga. Air Belgium es una aerolínea regular belga de larga distancia que ofrece vuelos directos entre Bélgica y Asia.
Tiene un capital inicial suscrito de 20 millones de euros, dividido entre los accionistas belgas y europeos por la mayoría del capital y los accionistas asiáticos, en minoría. La sede central de la compañía se encuentra en Mont-Saint-Guibert, Brabant-Wallon (al sur de Bruselas).
La compañía opera cuatro aeronaves Airbus A340 versiones 300, dos de los cuales ya están en servicio y otros dos están programados para llegar en junio y este verano. Estos aviones tienen una capacidad de 257 asientos, incluyendo 45 en clase ejecutiva.
Las cabinas tendrán una nueva configuración para la temporada de invierno 2018 aumentando la capacidad a 303 asientos.
El objetivo será transportar 500,000 pasajeros por año.

 

 

En cuanto al aeropuerto de Charleroi, alcanza los 7.7 millones de pasajeros y es uno de los aeropuertos más puntuales del mundo.
En cuanto a los viajeros, el 30% son viajes de negocios, el 34% de placer y el 29% para visitar a familiares y amigos. Cabe señalar que, aunque se encuentra en Valonia, el 50% de los viajeros proceden de Flandes, el 37% de Valonia y el 13% de Bruselas.
En comparación, el aeropuerto de Hong-Kong recibe 72.9 millones de pasajeros, 100 compañías operan desde o hasta este aeropuerto internacional. Constituye también el primer aeropuerto de carga en el mundo.

La ambición del aeropuerto de Charleroi, luego de este primer destino intercontinental, es lograr que otras compañías operan hacia Brussels South con el fin de desarrollar una red más grande en el mundo.

On June 6, 2018, the new Belgian airline, Air Belgium, officially opens its flights between Charleroi Brussels South Airport, located 30 km south of Brussels, and Hong Kong.
On this occasion, the company also presented its new lounge for executive class passengers, located a short distance from the access to the plane, and which has a dedicated door for immediate boarding. It is accessible three hours before each departure.
After having made several flights for other companies, including the Caribbean and Africa, as well as two training flights for the crew, with passengers each lasting three hours, a first flight to Hong Kong left on June 3, after a delay of approximately one month in the initial plan.

Two elements can explain this delay. First, the overflight rights of Russia and then the commercial transmission systems in China.
This is the implementation of GDS (Global Distribution Systems) that prevents Chinese tourists, without this agreement, access to Air Belgium flights.
Alternative air routes had been considered, but extending the flight for more than an hour and, therefore, increasing costs. Another argument would be the lack of passengers on board during the early stages.
On the other hand, the demand for the leasing of Airbus 340 by other companies is very important for the beginning of summer.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Brussels Charleroi airport, with the presence of ministers, authorities, representatives of the political and economic world, the Air Belgium boards of directors and the airport authorities as well as associated companies.
Eric Bauche, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Air Belgium, commented: «We are proud to inaugurate this first commercial route in the history of Air Belgium, which is also the first connection between Brussels Charleroi and Asia. The result of two years of hard work and many steps in this new adventure, both for the staff of the company and for BSCA (Brussels South Charleroi Airport).
Hong Kong is just the first stage of our trip in China and we will soon discover new destinations. »
Laurent Lévêque, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSCA, said: «The arrival of Air Belgium on the tarmac of our airport is the expression of our desire to move forward.
This is a new stage in the history of the airport, since it brings the long distance adventure and the opening to other continents. The investments made for the extension of the runway (now the 2550m runway will increase to 3200m in 2021) and the improvements to our infrastructures available to passengers are part of this boost. »

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, an executive class and Premium Economy passenger lounge was specially designed. They have access to a quiet private area, offering the services they need and direct access to their plane.
Recently, and as you may have read in one of my previous articles, Cathay Pacific opened a line between Brussels and Hong Kong.
Why such sudden interest in these new destinations, especially from Belgium?
As commented by Rupert Hogg, executive director of Cathay Pacific in his visit to Brussels: «Europe is an important destination in our strategy, but we were limited with the Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 that are rather destined for cities such as Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Businessmen and tourists are found by the thousands or spend every day in connections for other flights.
Half of the world population can arrive in less than 5 hours by plane. From an economic and tourism point of view, other key areas such as Shenzhen (including Hainan Airlines also opened a line from Brussels this year) Guangzhou and Macao are easily accessible by land or by sea.
By plane, we have access to all destinations in Asia, the Pacific and Oceania.
Let us talk about this new Belgian company. Air Belgium is a Belgian long-distance regular airline offering direct flights between Belgium and Asia.
It has a subscribed initial capital of 20 million euros, divided between the Belgian and European shareholders, by the majority of the capital, and the Asian shareholders, in a minority. The company’s headquarters are located in Mont-Saint-Guibert, Brabant-Wallon (south of Brussels).
The company operates four Airbus A340 300 versions, two of which are already in service and another two are scheduled to arrive in June and this summer. These aircraft have a capacity of 257 seats, including 45 in business class.
The cabins will have a new configuration for the 2018 winter season, boosting capacity to 303 seats.
The objective will be to transport 500,000 passengers per year.

As for the Charleroi airport, it reaches 7.7 million passengers and is one of the most punctual airports in the world.

As for travellers, 30% are business trips, 34% pleasure and 29% to visit family and friends.
It should be noted that, although it is located in Wallonia, 50% of travellers come from Flanders, 37% from Wallonia and 13% from Brussels.
By comparison, the Hong Kong airport receives 72.9 million passengers, 100 companies operate from or to this international airport. It is also the first cargo airport in the world.

The ambition of the Charleroi airport, after this first intercontinental destination, is to get other companies to operate towards Brussels South in order to develop a larger network in the world.
