Para nosotros, el aeropuerto de Lomé en la República de Togo fue un lugar tanto de visita o de re-encuentros con nuestros padres cuando estaban trabajando en la zona.

Nos dio oportunidad de fotografiar aviones bien exóticos y es solo de ver las fotos del McDonnell Douglas DC-9-51 Hawaiian Airlines en contrato de arriendo con Ghana Airways.

También tenemos el Constellation N273R de Lanzair que vimos en 2 ocasiones, la primera siendo estacionado en la losa del aeropuerto y la segunda, en circunstancia menos honorable luego de su destrucción por incendio.

El DC-9-51 N629HA, luego de operar con Eastern Air Lines y Servivensa, volvió con Ghana Airways que lo había comprado en 1999 llevando la matrícula final 9G-ADY. Se accidento en Conakry, República de Guinea el 13 de noviembre de 2000 al aterrizar con el tren de aterrizaje replegado.

Fue considerado económicamente irreparable y desguazado en Conakry.

 

Uno de los 2 Douglas C-47 operando con Arax Airlines termino como fuente de repuestos en el aeródromo de Nairobi-Wilson.

For us, Lomé’s airport in the Republic of Togo was a place to visit or to meet our parents when they were working in the area.

It gave us the opportunity to photograph very exotic airplanes and it is only to see the photos of the McDonnell Douglas DC-9-51 Hawaiian Airlines on a lease contract with Ghana Airways. We also have the Lanzair Constellation N273R that we saw twice, the first being parked on the airport ramp and the second, in less honourable circumstances after its destruction by fire.

The DC-9-51 N629HA, after operating with Eastern Air Lines and Servivensa returned with Ghana Airways that had bought it in 1999, carrying the final registration 9G-ADY. He crashed in Conakry, Republic of Guinea on November 13, 2000 when landing with the landing gear retracted.

It was considered economically irreparable and scrapped in Conakry.

One of the two Douglas C-47 operating with Arax Airlines ended up as a source of spare parts at the Nairobi-Wilson airfield.
